Tomorrow is the day!!

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow is the big day (November 3) and I’m super excited! I am trying to pack and just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to take. I have to spend at least one night and I will have my cpap, phone and charger, slippers and a change of clothes. Also how bad is that first day after surgery? I am excited for this new chapter in my life. Thanks!!

Head/Earphones, extra long phone charger cord and magazines. I couldn’t focus on a book and found mindless flipping through a People mag was what I needed. As soon as they had me up walking I washed my face & brushed my teeth and it felt so good. Oh and a small personal pillow if you have one- good to hold to your stomach if you need to cough!!

Good luck to you , you’ll do great!! It’s not as scary as I thought it would be and I am just a little sore but no real pain or nausea!!

The first day, for me, wasn’t bad at all. They kept me very hydrated and on pain medication through the IV. I didn’t feel bad much at all in the hospital. I just had a small amount of gas pain in my left shoulder area. Some small pain in my abdominal area as if I did too many sit-ups. It was very manageable.

I brought pajama bottoms and slipped them on. I just wore the hospital gown for the top. I didn’t want to read and never turned on the tv. I wanted to nap. Also brought a brush, toothbrush, paste, chapstick, facial moisturizer, slippers. Fresh underwear but wore the same clothes home a came in.

I’m excited for you! Think positive thoughts. You will do great! Check in here when you feel up to it and let us know how you are doing.

Almost one week out of surgery and I’m doing great! I feel amazing and learning how to eat and it gets better everyday. Sadly I touched nothing I took because I had a reaction to something and couldn’t even keep Water down while I was in the hospital but have been great since getting home. So hopefully for my future! Thanks everyone!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
