Cream on Incisions?

Recommended Posts

I didn't worry about my scars. My opinion was "Hell scares vs. being fat? I'll take the scars!" I did have foot surgery a while back and I think I remember my doc telling me to wait until the skin grew back with no scabs and you had fresh scar tissue before using mederma. I think it was because the medicine in maderma causes the wound to heal slower, making it more apt to healing invisible. The slower it heals the fainter it will be. I don't see a problem with antibiotic ointment but I think cream has the same effect. I know cortizone cream does. I think it might be too so for you. I think your main focus should be wait until they are completely closed and all the scabs are off before using it. This is just my opinion. If it really bothers you talk to your doc and see what he says.

As soon as my sterile strips fell off, I put Neosporin on them daily. Now that my incisions are healed, I put Cocoa Butter on them :(

Antibiotic cream, sure.. but mederma says not to put on new wounds.

I don't know how quickly they're healed at 1 week, but I'm almost 1 month post-op from 2nd surgery and neither of my incisions (port size incisions) look ready for mederma.

Good question. I was wondering the same thing. I rubbed a little Coco Butter on them, but not Neosporin. I was told Neosporin can delay the healing of a wound (if your incisions are sealed with Dermabond vs. stitches)

If there are still scabs on your wounds, you need to keep them clean and dry until they are completely healed. Then you can put whatever you wish on them.
