Banded Nurses?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow nurses. I have been a night shift RN on a pediatric oncology unit for almost 11 years , but I just got a new job as a clinical care coordinator which I start monday. I can't wait to work days and NO holidays or weekends!!!! I am not banded yet because my doctor said that the telemetric gastric band will be FDA approved in 2008. He thinks around Feb. or March. If anyone knows anything please share.

Wasabubblebutt- Thanks for the travel food tips. I can't wait to try them as soon as I get my band. I have never heard of dried cantaloupe. Sounds Yummy.

HEY!!! I'm a nurse I havent been banded yet...looking to do so hopefully in December!!! Just waiting on finishing the 6mo diet thing!

I have a question though....Before nursing school in 2001 I got my tongue pierced...now mainly due to work and everything all I wear is a retainer so noone really knows that I have it. I havent had surgery since I was 5 y/o...my question is this Does anyone know if I will have to take my tongue ring out? I am really attached to it...sounds odd I know but I have had it now for 6 years....I have tried numerous times to take it out and leave it out but cant stand it.....If I take it out before surgery by the time I can put it back in it will have grown up........

When I worked in outpatient surgery we would me them take them out. People could put retainers in other piercings, but with the tongue I would be concerned with the ET tube.

HEY! I am an RN and work in Women's and Infant's services in Conway, AR. I am scheduled for Dec. 6. I think these next 2 weeks and 4 days are going to drag by! Has anyone found that overweight people are more supportive of the band than the "skinny b*#@%'s"? I feel like those who have struggled with their weight understand more than those who have never had a weight problem and think you can just "stop eating."

OK. I've had my tongue done for about 10 1/2 years now... And I go months at a time without it in... it won't close up. Lol. As of now, I don't think I've had a barbell in since May, but I promise that if I tried to, it would slide right in without any issue.

I'm pretty sure that you'll have to take it out pre-op. I mean, if I wasn't allowed to wear freaking LIPGLOSS then I'm sure all jewelry has to come out. Lol. All will be well. You can slip it back in as soon as you wake up!:kiss2:

It will definitely have to be removed. It would be very dangerous for intubation and if it is metal, it would be a cautery hazard. Take a container for it and take it out before you go back to the OR, then put it in when you are awake enough in your room. They can give you a denture cup with a label on it, if you don't have a container.

Everyone is welcome - if you can stand us nurses :-)!

I have to say that I have had nothing but support from all of my co-workers. How has others experiences been? You would think as health care workers we would applaud the effort to improve our health, but people are funny sometimes.

I kinda wish I didn't say anything to my co-workers cause now their all bugging me.."how you feeling, how much have you lost" balh blah blah.My surgery was Oct 15. I know that their just trying to be supportive but I don't have my 1st fill til next week and I can eat anything and have no restriction so I keep losing and gaining the same 2 pounds. I feel like renting a billboard and putting my stats up there for all to see. maybe the novilty will wear off soon.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
