I am three weeks out from the surgery. My doctor advanced me to soft foods after one week and I've slowly been adding more and more (approved soft foods) to my diet. I got tired of Water so I switched to watermelon water and started having horrendous diarrhea.

Well I emailed my team at the hospital and they told me to stop the watermelon water, so I did. Everything was fine until today when I realized I haven't pooped IN SIX DAYS.

So what are some safe stool softeners?

Thank you!

I have had this issue pretty much from the start and have to keep on top of it. I'm not sure where you are but the first advice I had was to try prune juice and benefibre. Now I have sachets of Movicol ingredient is macrogrol you may have similar and also old fashioned lactulose Syrup. They really work but the first time after 7 days I went in and had an enema because it was impacted further in. I didn't even feel like I had to go. Funny about the watermelon drink. I had Diet-lite lemon cordial all day the other day as a change from Protein Water and it gave me diarreah the next day. I was thinking I might still have one once or twice a week if it's going to help get the bowel moving

The Constipation issues are very real for us, I use murilax every other day & I also take milk of magnesia once a week (you can get them both at Wal-Mart over the counter). This has kept me on track plus constipation will interfere with your weight loss[emoji41]

What is watermelon water? Not sure I've heard of it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
