So, yesterday, I had a meeting with the nurse prac who was able to let me know what I have left to do before I can meet with the surgeon. I started this journey with a different program/different insurance/different hospital, so there's a lot I was concerned about having to do over again. only 1 thing has to be repeated - the psych eval, and lifestyle classes. no biggie. I'll sail through that. then a few more minor tests. and of course the needed weight loss. I had it in my head that there would be a HUGE list of stuff left to do.. so i'm feeling good that the list is so small. I am a little concerned about losing the weight (17lbs) but i'm determined. I will NOT let this get in my way. I'm going to adjust my diet some more, go to the gym more, and push push push to get those pounds off.:D ok.. does it really have to be Halloween right now? there's candy EVERYWHERE.

Since I'm a newbie, why do you have to lose 17 lbs before surgery? Is that required for all patients? How do they decide how much you have to lose before surgery....yea the candy at this time is hard to ignore...no, no, no!!! Happy Halloween!

I had to lose 13lbs in 2 weeks and tomorrow is my final weigh in before submitting to my insurance. I did a high protein/low carb, tracked everything I ate but only ate 1200 calories a day, with at least 1 Protein Shake (Premier) and met that goal today, without any exercise. If I can do it, you can too!

The weight loss requirement is based on a % of your current weight - and how much your doctor and/or insurance company wants you to lose. it varies from person to person, plan to plan.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
