I don't understand soup :)

Recommended Posts

So, I made Bone Broth and tossed in carrots. Basically, it's a liquid, minus the carrots. Does this mean, I shouldn't really eat it during a meal, as it will help other stuff slide through?

I'm having the hardest time with not drinking before and after. I get why, but it's so hard. I have taken some sips. I just couldn't hack it.

How many weeks post-op are you? What food stage are you in?

I see you're about 4 weeks postop. The following is applicable whenever your stages get to these points.

Personally I would drink broth (without chunks) as a beverage. Which means I could eat a meal after waiting just a few minutes after the broth. (I had no problems eating about 5 minutes after drinking a few ounces. If I drank a big cupful, then I couldn't eat for a while).

Don't take bites of food, and sip on your drink in between. Just don't. Drink, wait as long as necessary to eat comfortably, then eat.

If the broth is full of chunks (like chicken noodle soup), then it is a meal. Measure out about 3- 4oz and try that. Stop when full. If you want to stay full for a while, drink the broth out of the Soup first, then munch on the chunks.

And if it's thick soup like chili or beef stew, again, it's a meal.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
