Hello! I’m 19 years old and I’m somewhat new to BariatricPal! I got my sleeve done on October 17th so I’m 13 days post-op! I feel great! I’m currently down 28 pounds just this month.

I just my post-op check up with my surgeon and everything is good and he gave me the approval to start working out again which I’m very excited about.

My surgeon said don’t worry about building muscle and to mainly focus on cardio and fat burning exercises.

What are some good Post-Op workouts to do at the gym?

I’d move slow. Low impact cardio for a month or so. Bike, row machine, treadmill(but do slow, incline walking). You don’t want to pull anything or get a hernia. Ropes are good cardio too.

I am absolutely no doctor, but I think if you eliminate resistance training (weights, bands, push-ups, etc.) you are not doing yourself any favors. Light resistance training will keep your lean body mass intact better than cardio. Lean body mass burns calories. I’m not talking about strapping up and moving a lot of weights. What I’ve done in my 3 workouts since vsg (10/11/17) is simple movements with the lightest of weights. This will also strengthen your core (big incision) as long as you don’t over do it!

I also had my sleeve performed on October 17th and was cleared by the surgeon (at my 2 week check-up earlier this week) to start back at the gym, I'm so thrilled! I've just been hitting the treadmill for the last couple of days but have organised to start working out with my PT again next week, I can't wait to get back under some weights.

I expected to have to wait for 6 weeks before being cleared to exercise again!

I had my two week check up this past Friday and they told me to stick with walking, yoga, cardio... and when I am at 6 weeks post op, I can do whatever workout I want. They did tell me to stay away from doing any core exercises since my tummy is still a little tender. Don't push yourself and make sure to stay hydrated. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
