First Fill, But Still No Restriction!?!

Recommended Posts

I got my band about 7 weeks ago. After the end of the healing period, I could eat whatever I wanted. Except for the scars on my tummy, it was like the surgery never happened. I was longing for my first fill. Now I finally got it -- 4ccs in a 10cc band. And I still have NO restriction! Is this normal? I am sort of worried that maybe something is wrong with the band or port or tubing or something. I know that many people are not at the 'sweet spot' after just one fill, but I don't have any restriction at all! :faint: What is your experience after the first fill? Is this normal with the 10cc band? Thanks.

I have a size 10 band but mine only holds 4ccs so I don't think we have the same band. If you aren't feeling restriction this is quite common with the first fill. It took me 5 fills to reach my sweet spot so keep the faith and keep going back for more until you can only eat a little bit. My doctor says that even 1/4 cup of food is good if you are getting your 60 grams of Protein. I always start my day with a 30 gram Protein Shake. Good luck.

It took my first fill three weeks to kick in. Give it some time. Noone can really explain why it takes some people so long for a fill to kick in, it just does. It doesn't make since to me why it takes so long, hopefully you will get restriction soon. Best wishes!

Give yourself some time. My wife is 6 weeks out and Iam 5 weeks and we had are first fill with an upper gi and the doctor put 1cc in my band and 2 1/2cc in heres. I allready have noticed the restriction. He does it with the scope and was able to see that we both had good restriction. I hope that this helps you out. Keep in mind that everyone and bodies are differant,

Chris

Many people don't feel restriction after their first fill. I had very, very little after mine. I waited two weeks and then went back for another. It took one more to get to the restriction I'm at right now, which I feel is ideal for me.

I too have a 10cc band. I just went for my second fill and I'm up to 6cc and I finally feel a bit of restriction. When I was at 4cc I felt zero restriction - I felt like I wasn't banded at all.

I was filled yesterday-4.4 cc-I feel restriction-like it was the first 2 weeks after surgery- not hungry at all-we will see if it lasts.

I will agree with most. The first fill helped for about a week but now I can tell I need another one. Hope the next time I will get more than just 1 cc. Stress can do a lot to make restriction and not get much of a fill.

I didn't really feel much after my first fill either. I have just had my second fill, and feel restriction now. After my first fill, my Doc said that I should wait about a week or so before I decided if the fill was doing doing anything or not, because it can take some time for the fill to take effect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
