Hi, I am in my mid 50s.. I first booked surgery in 2014 went back and forth 3 times. Feeling afraid. Here I am now 3 years later and I go for surgery in 1 week.Nov 13. Now , I am positive. It took me time to decide, almost 3 years. It may take you time. It is a big decision but the benefit out ways any risk for me. I only need to loose 70 pounds but as I get older I do not have to energy that I want to live fully. I can't wait to finally have this done. I wish you well with your decision..

Good luck with your surgery! Excited to hear how it goes.

Well I feel better now and passed all my tests, got approved and PCP cleared me today for Nov 30th date. Three weeks out. I will say that I feel good until I talk to my husband. He is supportive but it's the little things he says that I know he doesn't want me to have it. Sets me back a little but I do think it will be the best thing for me. Thanks for input!

@Lainey H you might gently tell him that you know he loves you and wants the best for you, and that he might be scared, but this is the best decision for you to make, and then tell him those little comments might be his insecurity showing but that it is not what being supportive looks like. Tell him you need him the most right now and you are thankful he is in your court.

Great advise. I will.

He is such a good man and somewhat gets my struggle. He is in the pharma industry and his co makes a weight loss drug. Last night he asked me if he were to work out with me and eat healthy, would I give it another try. I felt so bad bc I have worked it out and feel better about the risks and my decision. I really feel like it may work for awhile but it’s like my body and will are broken and I need this tool to help me. Been down this road so many times and wasting my 40s in this body.

In the end he said we should still work out together so I woke up at 6 and jumped on the elipitical. Oh how I hate early morning workouts. Much more of a night owl.

Thanks!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
