Mexico LapBand Nightmare

Recommended Posts

Had my band almost 9 years, had it out in MX this past June. What a nightmare, was ripped off by the medical advocate that took me down to have it taken out. (She was the same one that took me down to MX 9 years ago when I had it put in) The band was eroded and the hospital wanted an extra 1500.00, the advocate took my husband to San Diego to get the money and she kept it. Never saw her again ...and the Dr/ Hosp is demanding the money I owe them. They tell me she does not work for them anymore, even though she did when I had it put in. They told me they were going to kidnap me. It was terrifying. Getting the band was the BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. The advocate totally ripped me off. She told me that the Dr. she took me to isn't even a doctor and that it isn't even his real name. She seems to not think she has any accountability to where she takes her patients. She has a website and continues to do this. To be continued

Have you filed a complaint with the police, medical board or anyone? I am sorry this happened to you.

I tried...the crime did not occur in my state, or in her state, so the police departments wouldn't handle the case. Going through the state attorney general. It is difficult because it happened in Mexico, but the theft by deception happened in the US, because she brought my husband to San Diego to get the money. I know she still takes people over the boarder for weight loss procedures, and she needs to be stopped.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
