6 years banded, nausea after eating

Recommended Posts

I have been banded six years. For the last couple months I get nauseous almost every time after I eat. Does not matter what I eat or how much I eat, I get nauseous about 30 minutes later. I have never had any problems with my band… No throwing up, no nausea, no PB, very few incidents of food getting stuck, etc. All in all, I’ve had a great LB experience (except for gaining half the weight back that I lost).

Any idea why I might all of a sudden have nausea after 6 years?

I'd suggest you consult your surgeon. You could have developed a hiatal hernia or the band could have slipped or worse it could be a sign of band erosion. You really need to talk to your doctor about what's going on to avoid any potentially life threatening situations.

Good luck!

Thanks Matt. I did make an appt with my dr. Just trying to get some idea of what’s going on from people who have lived this! Of course, my luck, my surgeons are out of town speaking at a conference for a week & since I don’t want to see anyone else, i’ll be struggling through another week.

Thanks for your quick response.

Good luck man! I haven't had the exact same issue, but I know the feeling of being forced to deal with things. I've got a list of foods that I should be eating that I have issues with, either getting stuck or it just being super uncomfortable to eat. It's one of the reasons I'm trying to get my band updated to a bypass. It shouldn't hurt to eat lettuce.

Hope all is well!

They should also look at your gallbladder while they're at it.

Good luck!

Thanks Berry78, I had my gallbladder removed years ago.

Matt Z...I don’t seem to have any problem with liquids so I guess i’ll be on a liquid diet until I see my doc Saturday. 😝

Update: My band has slipped and my port is flipped:47_tired_face: Surgery Tuesday to remove my band.

Wow I’m so sorry that you’re going through that but I’m glad that they figured out what was going on and hopefully can remedy it. Best of luck.

Hate to like something like this... but there isn't any other options LOL

Sucks that it was something so drastic, but glad you went and had it checked out... too many people would have just dealt with it. Have you discussed revision to another WL option with your surgeon??

Wait... Tuesday, that's today! Hope all is well man!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
