DRoseman 34 Posted October 26, 2017 Are there any insurance companies that DON'T require 6 months of dieting prior to surgery?D.R. Potential Sleever
autumn_waid 0 Posted October 29, 2017 Mine just handed me a paper with the diet and said “this is basically what you’ll eat for the rest of your life”, and he said with my insurance (Aetna) the process takes 3-4 months to complete and get your date.

336Mike 554 Posted October 30, 2017 I have Aetna as well, but my requirement was 3 months diet. It depends on several factors. The clinical policy bulletin outlines everything pretty well: http://www.aetna.com/cpb/medical/data/100_199/0157.htmlVSG 10/11/17HW = 360SW = 292CW = 278GW = 220 (6'5")

trailtramper 107 Posted October 30, 2017 Cigna is >89 days or 90 days with four weight loss visits. The initial surgery consultation counts as a visit. https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf

watsongirl17 52 Posted October 30, 2017 I have BCBS Texas , but I don’t have a weight loss period. I just have to do EDG, one nutrition appointment and a psych elevation. Then I submit to the insurance. No waiting period.
Roxanne47 0 Posted October 30, 2017 I don't have to do the EGD, ... I do have to have a psych eval and medical necessity letter/recommendationSent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app
temkins 71 Posted October 31, 2017 (edited) Exactly my case With AETNA this is not a dieting per se, but a "supervised weight control program", which means you have to follow up on monthly basis either with a professional dietician during a 6 month period, or with a dietician AND a PCP during a 3 month period. During that time you should demonstrate some positive weight loss dynamic - if you lose at least 1-2 lb during that 3-6 months, you are fine and AETNA will clear you for the surgery.
