Hello there,

I had a question for any sleevers ... Has anyone continue to use marijuana? I have a medical card and also live in California where it is legal to use for recreational use. Does anyone know if they test you right before surgery for nicotine or marijuana? I'm about 4 weeks from surgery and thinking about quitting. Just enough time to have it out of my system. I have been smoking for 15+ years, this may be hard but completely worth it in the end!

Has anyone stopped Pryor to surgery and started back up after. If so how long did you wait to smoke again?

I m not sure about Cali. But I know here in NY you have to pass drug and nicotine test. I wish you the best! Congrats on your new Journey. I was born and raised in SoCali before coming out to NY. I miss it.

I've never heard of people being tested for either here in Florida. In fact, I quit smoking in April and I do vape but at a minimal nicotine level and all my doctors and surgeon know and have not said anything but "great job" and "soon you won't need that either".

Yes they will test you. Wait until you are post op and have had the surgery. I I use a vape pen at night but also you will have to watch getting the munchies because your brain does not realize your stomach will be much, much smaller. By the way I live in Napa Valley and am a Kaiser patient they do not play around with THC, Nicotine or any other substances that will be deemed addictive. In fact I picked up my pain meds day before my surgery in 2016. I had to withdraw from Suboxone a week prior due to chronic pain. So my back pain flared so I took a couple swigs of liquid Norco meant for post op. I was so scared at check in when they tested me that it would show but it was okay. They are looking for Nicotine, alcohol, THC and street drugs. Good luck!

It's up to the individual doctor whether they test or not. All mine tested for was pregnancy, even though I had my tubes tied.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
