Odd Items to Bring With You

Recommended Posts

I am in the hospital right now as I type this. (Tuesday, Oct 24, 2017) and wanted to share with you guys a couple of items to bring that I had and was sooo glad I did.

1. Sunglasses / eye cover sleep mask

Why? My room was directly across from the nurses station and the light poured into my room. Luckily for me I had my old sunglasses in my back pack from when I used to commute on the train. They blocked the train car light on the 4am train. Need my beauty sleep! emoji41.png

2. Noise canceling headphones

Why? These come in handy for all the machines that go "ping". And, like I said, I was directly across.from the nurses station so I didnt have to hear them.

3. Gas-x STRIPS

Why? They freakin' work. I had some gas pains and took these. 10 min later pain was gone.

4. Loose fitting shorts / sweatpants

Why? I wore silky basketball type shorts. So when I would be walking around the ward, no one can see my precious hiney. Plus, they are comfortable.

5. Phone / I pad

Why? Alot of downtime.

Dont forget toiletries!

Oh! One more thing: a small fan.

Oa side effect of the anti nasuea medicine causes you to heat up and sweat. And boy, was heating up and sweating. So the awesome nurses brought me a fan. So glad they did. And more glad they did not take it away..the breeze felt great and moving the air around in the room helped alot too.

Thank you a Killian for those recommendations, I'll surely will take note. Glad to see that you're feeling good after your sugery. Btw how is your throat? Some people said they had a lot of pain and could barely swallow

My throat was a little dry, no problems swallowing whatsoever.

How are you doing post-op, Killian?

Pretty good. Doc has me on 3 Protein Shakes a day for next two weeks...so that might be tough...but otherwise...no pain or dizzyness, NOT hungry, and enjoying the weight coming off.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
