They were not kidding about taste changes

Recommended Posts

Found out I do not like bacon anymore.
I love tuna and fish when I used to hate it.
And steak tastes gamey.
What tastes changes have you experienced?

I'm only 3 days post op. The day before surgery I made a batch of my favorite SF lemon Jello and a batch of SF chocolate pudding. Previously those would each be 4 servings for me. I served up a tablespoon and ate some of both today and stopped after 2 tiny bites because I just was not enjoying them. Yesterday they were yummy. Today they just did not make my mouth say yummy and I didn't want to waste calories by eating something I wasn't enjoying. It seems like my taste buds are slowly changing day by day.

Most be my body's way of telling me I don't need something.

The tastes keep evolving. I was eating lots of yogurt a few weeks postop, but now I can't eat it at all, it's all just too sour (except one particular brand: Oui).

Used to love plain Water ..can't drink plane now.

Used to love yoghurt. Have only had it once since surgery.

Used to love pizza. Now I'm allowed it. I don't want it.

I used to love sweet things. Now no cravings. I've had a brain transplant it feels. I only eat meat veg cheese eggs. I used to love fruit. While its on my plan it's not appealing to me.

I used to love rice Pasta bread.. Now? No thanks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
