I’m exactly 1 week post-op RNY and haven’t had a BM in 8 days. Mind you I have been on Clear Liquids & Jello for 2 weeks (1 week pre-op and 1 week post-op). I don’t feel the urge or constipated however. I don’t know if there’s anything really in there to pass. Should I be worried or take milk of magnesia just in case?

I went while in the hospital then when I came home. Nothing for 7 days. I didn't feel like there was anything their either but then all of a sudden my actual stomach hurt and I felt nauseous. I went to the surgeon and he ordered a CT just in case and I was blocked up but it was further in and just wasn't able to move. i had a full enema to move it. Since then I've had to take Movicol and Actilax softener to make sure it keeps going. At this stage you could take a stool softener and see if it comes through. If you are eating it will be there. They told me prune juice and benefibre too

I take two ducolax in the morning and two Smooth Move capsules at 8:00 pm daily. It works daily. A little cramping, but I go everyday. If you cannot find the Smooth Move capsules, they also make it in a tea.

OMG! 32 days out and I am still having issues. I only have a BM every 3-4 days and more often than not it’s the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced as far as BM is concerned. Today I almost missed work because I was too weak after to even stand up! I’m gonna order some Smooth Move tea from Amazon for sure!
Anyone have any good reviews for the squatty pottie? [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I took miralax in Powerade zero on post op day 3 to avoid problems. I had a history of Constipation before surgery so I’m sure not trying to make it worse after! Also have MoM on standby since that seems to be what works quickly for a lot of folks on here. The miralax made me feel gurgley and a bit bloated so MoM might be the way to go for awhile.

I prefer a glass of warm salt Water over using any chemicals/medicine. It is rough to choke down, so I just pinch my nose.

Invest in a Squatty Potty. Might be some of the best $ you'll ever spend..

Costco has 2 squatty potties in a package and I picked them up I’m short 5’2” and it doesn’t help me much. I’m not sure if I’m just short or if it’s just my body it doesn’t work for. Lots of friends recommended it so I know it works for them.

I love my squatty potty! I’m on a lot of Iron and each time I take an iron pill I also take a colace. In the beginning I needed the glycerin suppositories too. But now, just the colace with iron and my squatty potty and I’m good to go!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
