Wish I was having problems eating food

Recommended Posts

I'm nine weeks out. Have lost 36 lbs. (stats below) I have been hungry since post-op Day 4. I am able to eat anything I want, just not very much of it. Have had steak and salad and chicken and pork and ham and every vegetable and fruit I like. I've never had the "foamies", I've never thrown-up and I crave things I know I shouldn't have. Have tried pretty much everything except bread.< /p>

If I didn't actually see my Sleeve every 4-6 weeks on the X-ray machine, I'm not sure I would believe I really had it. Only other evidence I have is I can only eat 3-4 oz of Protein at a time which I know is good and is the way it should be.

I just wish I would get sick when eating things I shouldn't. And I know I'm gonna get ripped on here b/c I have eaten things I shouldn't and I totally deserve it and almost welcome it.

Anyone else able to eat without problem?

I don’t think the point of the surgery is to make you sick when you eat junk. It’s to limit your intake. It’s really up to you just to make smart choices. Which it sounds like you have. The hardest part about this is adjusting your mind. The cravings will not ever go away probably. Cake and chips and ice cream are great.

I've been able to eat pretty much everything as well, no problems. I'm only a month out. I feel hungry all the friggin time, it sucks!

Same here. Was hungry the day after surgery, stomach was actually growling. I can pretty much eat anything as well. I felt the same way, like maybe my sleeve was too big.

I can pretty much eat anything except eggs and they just make me have intestinal issues. I for sure get hungry still and I have to make sure I'm not snacking like crazy throughout the day. Otherwise, I'm glad I can eat what I want because I did this for a lifestyle change and didn't want to live on a "diet". Now I can make the choice not to eat something instead of my body telling me I absolutely cannot. 115 pounds down and I've found a new relationship with food.

I can eat with no problem except for packaged tuna, chicken, and salmon. It tastes gross. As far as I know, the bypass will make you sick if you eat junk. Sometimes, I think I should have had the bypass. I'm 7 weeks out and lost 30 lbs.

I had a lot of stomach acid immediately after surgery and found that once I regulated that, "huger" subsided. Stomach acid has leveled out in the weeks/months following surgery so was only a short-term occurance.

Now that I'm > 4 months out, I find that I'm getting more snacky then before. I'll feel guilty about having an extra handful of almonds or a piece of cheese... and then suddenly remember how I USED to eat, and feel much better about it!

I did not know how bad my acid stomach was before the surgery. Whenever I felt that gnawing in my gut I ate to stop it, even if I wasn't too hungry. After surgery I had the same feeling and it scared me. I thought I went through all of this and It didn't work !!!! My doctor put me on an anti acid 20 Mg twice a day and it stopped. I know longer feel that horrible feeling and I do not feel hunger at all. I eat by the clock so I can try to make my Protein goals.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
