What's your pre op diet like?

Recommended Posts

Just curious what everyone's pre op diet consists of. I'm on day 2 of my 14 day pre op and it is rough! I know it's all worth it though

Here's mine:

Day 14-8

Morning : Protein Shake

Afternoon : Protein shake

Dinner: 3 oz of very lean meat with one cup cooked vegetable

Also may have:

1 low fat cheese stick

1 light, non fat yogurt6oz

1 packet of Quaker Oats Weight Control oatmeal

3 oz of fresh fruit

Unlimited RAW vegetables

Day 7-2

Protein Shakes for Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Also may have:

1 low fat cheese stick

1 6 oz yogurt

3 oz fresh fruit

Unlimited RAW vegetables

Day before surgery liquid diet no red Jello or liquids

all I could have as 5-6 Protein Shakes per day, plus unlimited sugar free beverages, sugar free popsicles, and sugar free Jello. I could also have something like 8 oz of Tomato juice, V8, or broth (I'm guessing they limited it because of the sodium). No solid food at all - so you're lucky.

Yep. This is mine too. I did get her approval to add (in 1 of the Protein shakes): 1oz frozen blueberries, 1 1/2oz frozen chopped spinach, and psyllium. I can also add 6g of peanut "flour". I have about 10-12 days of it. Then 2 days prior to surgery, it switches to Clear Liquids only with a bowel prep. I'll do clear Protein Drinks at that time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
