Surgey the 17th, Wished I could die

Recommended Posts

The first 3 days in the hospital I wanted to do nothing but die, I hurt so bad. Staples in 5 areas, being pushed to get up - which I know was the best for me. Protein Drinks make me ill. And before it's suggested, I don't like chocolate. Haha. In 2 days I get my staples out and I'll weigh then.

Staples? So was yours an open procedure, instead of laparascopic? No wonder you were in a lot of pain!

I am so sorry to hear about your pain! Was it the stomach or the incisions? Have you thought about some of the Protein powders? They have tasteless ones that you can add to Water etc. I am keeping those options open for after my surgery in December. I hope things start going smoother for you! It will all be worth it!!!

I was going to ask that as well. Mine is laparoscopic and although there is a couple more incisions, my surgeon said it won't be much worse than the gall bladder and appendectomy surgeries I've had. Other than the nausea. With both of those surgeries I was at work the next day with little/no pain. To be fair, I sit at a desk so no danger. Probably more chance for me to do something stupid at home than here!

Thanks all for the concern. No, I did not have an open procedure, it was laparoscopic. But, I did have 5 sets of staples with a total of 12 staples. They were taken out yesterday - Oct 26 - and I get to move up to the next diet level on Monday. My blood pressure meds have already been cut in half! I do have to sleep with a body pillow when I sleep on my sleep on my left side so i can put my pillow between legs and under my budda belly, other than that all is going well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
