Uterno 41 Posted October 23, 2017 Hi everyone. I'm early in the pre-sleeve process (just got accepted into the Bariatric program last week, now 6 monthly weight management visits before surgery can be scheduled). I have GERD that is well-managed with Omeprazole, and I'm wondering what I may experience post-sleeve. For those who had pre-existing GERD that was relatively mild/controlled, can you tell me about your experience after being sleeved? I'm wondering if it's worth considering bypass instead. Thanks in advance for your help!
lala_is_fabulous 4 Posted October 23, 2017 I have GERD, but my surgeon suggested the RNY because of it. Everyone I know that had a history with GERD and had the sleeve it worsened. Uterno 41 Posted October 23, 2017 Thanks LaLa. That's what I'm afraid of. I will follow up with my bariatric clinic.
KarenOR 180 Posted October 24, 2017 I had GERD before and it was well controlled with meds. I really didn't want bypass. The few days post-op in the hospital were brutal for the acid. Since then, I've had it a couple of times. I'm almost 4 weeks out. 1 Uterno reacted to this
Katherella 12 Posted October 25, 2017 I did not know how bad my acid stomach was before the surgery. Whenever I felt that gnawing in my gut I ate to stop it, even if I wasn't too hungry. After surgery I had the same feeling and it scared me. I thought I went through all of this and It didn't work !!!! My doctor put me on an anti acid 20 Mg twice a day and it stopped. I know longer feel that horrible feeling and I do not feel hunger at all. I eat by the clock so I can try to make Protein goals. 1 Uterno reacted to this
Supernovae 34 Posted October 31, 2017 Post surgery I had the worst stomach acid I've ever experience! I had 1 month of meds after surgery and after that ran out it was really bad. I decided to ignore it and hope that my stomach would naturally adjust and now at 9 weeks post op its almost gone... kimberly easley 12 Posted October 31, 2017 So im almost 2 months nov.12 will make 2 months. And i always feel hungry even an hour after i eat I take the [emoji173][emoji91] pills the doctor gave me but sometimes by mid evening it kicks in. Ive even had it so bad one night i thought i would have to go to thr hospital. I had never felt that kinda pain before. When i get [emoji173] [emoji91] it last for hours. But i will say its not as bad as it was before surgery. I also feel like the weight loss had come to a stop right now for two weeks nothing just a total of 38 1bs. Sorry for rant lolSent from my LG-M430 using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Uterno reacted to this
