Nancy MBGC 90 Posted October 24, 2017 Hi all, I am just starting this process. I see the surgeon and team for first time on 12/19. I have a terrible fear of vomiting- I get panic attacks when I feel like I may get sick. Both people I know that have had gastric bypass have to throw up at least once a week. This is the only thing that scares me about surgery- I’m leaning towards the sleeve. I need to mentally prepare for this if I’m going to have to deal with the “v” on a regular basis. Any thoughts or advice? thanks!! MeganHad sleeve 10/17. Have not vomited yet. 2 MN_Meg770 and Rainbow_Warrior reacted to this

Ugh nooo, I thought I was just getting lucky by easily being able to avoid things that would make me vomit now. Wah, thanks for the tip, I will check in with my doc. 1 Berry78 reacted to this

Airstream88 361 Posted October 24, 2017 I have never vomited in the year since I had RNY surgery. If you know you have issues with pain killers or anesthesia causing nausea then you can tell the surgeons prior to surgery and they will give you medications to take care of it. I have those issues and the anesthesiologist gave me a Dramamine patch and had pills to take with the pain killers as well. I was also extremely careful with avoiding sugar and high-fat foods the first 8 months. If you eat very slowly, with small bites and stop right away at any sign of fullness, you should be ok. Apple1 2,572 Posted October 24, 2017 I was nauseous the first 24-48 hours after surgery from the anesthesia. I had a few dry heaves, but that was it. They gave me something for it in my IV and I have been fine since. I haven't ever actually vomited and I am 5 months post op.

Bhageerah 161 Posted October 24, 2017 I am over two months out from surgery and I have not vomited once. I felt like I was going to have to right after surgery when I did my swallow test (literally a few hours after surgery) but I did not, and was fine. Have not even had the slightest urge since then. CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted October 25, 2017 I vomited a couple of times a few months post op. In both cases, it was from "wolfing" food. Just not a long term issue for me. I think if you are vomiting weekly, you need to eat slower, eat less at a time etc. The best advice is to never seek to feel full, eat to absence of hunger.... 1 MN_Meg770 reacted to this
Nancy MBGC 90 Posted October 25, 2017 Just a few days ago! How are you doing??I'm doing well. I'm not quite up and all over the place yet, but the only thing that's hard so far is the puréed diet. Pretty much live on yogurt. My sleeve seems fine. Thanks for asking! 1 MN_Meg770 reacted to this

Catherine D 2 Posted October 25, 2017 I had my gastric sleeve surgery two days ago. I did have dry heaves while in the hospital. The dr ordered a prescription for nausea and no problems since. I completely agree go slowly with anything you put in your mouth. Good luck to you
LetGoJo 27 Posted October 25, 2017 I vomit at least 3 times a week - I am 3 months post sleeve, I sometimes vomit every meal - I thinkThe main cause is spicy food, trying to drink with food or that bite too much 1 Rainbow_Warrior reacted to this
