kandywolf 161 Posted October 22, 2017 I had my surgery on Tuesday, 10/17. I am on full liquids until Friday. How do I watch my carbs, get enough Protein and get enough liquids? I am trying do hard but my sugar is not cooperating. I am at my carb limit for the day (i guessed, I think 75). My sugar is 55. I know they had to give me dextrose in the hospital 5 different times. How can I get my sugar up without carbs? I was diabetic before the surgery. Also, memory loss. And the headaches (I think are from my sugar being low) Any advice? Missy161 395 Posted October 23, 2017 Right after surgery I was told to just concentrate on getting the fluids in. I was told nothing over 6 g of sugar but to just concentrate on water- i.e. Jello, tea, Protein Shakes, sf popsicles etc count as fluids - now if your blood sugar is low that's another story. Call your doctor if that's a problem. You don't want to go into a coma because your sugar is too low! You may need extra help from your nutritionist, dr or nurse to keep your blood sugar regulated. Give the. A call that's why they are there.Mich WHw 223, SW 217 CW 178.2 GW
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted October 23, 2017 Try some whole milk yogurt. Drink a little juice just to bring it up or regular gatorade , chase it with lots of Protein - pureed cottage cheese. Or call your bariatric clinic. The most important thing is to get the blood sugar to stay up to a normal level - if it goes much lower you could have a seizure and worse.
