October 23rd Sleevers!

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

Tomorrow I finally get my sleeve. I can't believe how slow the time has gone. The last 6 months DRAGGED. Now this last week everything feels like its going so fast! I haven't even packed. I'm scheduled to be at the hospital at 10 AM. Looking forward to getting to the other side. :)

Who else is getting surgery tomorrow?

Tasha

Hi!

Thankfully, I don't have a clear liquid diet. For the last two weeks it's low fat low carb to shrink my liver. However, the last couple days I haven't really felt like eating much, getting anxious.

How have you been fairing with the Clear Liquids?

Tasha

Good Morning,
Best wishes on your surgery today. My surgery is Wednesday the 25th of October. I completed my one week 1,200 calorie food intake and now I’m working on my two day liquid only intake. I take a lot of medication for type II Diabetes, HBP, High Cholesterol, etc. My question is, do I take my medication on Tuesday, not Wednesday and restart the medication on Thursday? I’d appreciate your feedback. Have a great day[emoji258]

My surgery is also this Wednesday! Good luck to you! I take thyroid medicine and I was told to take my thyroid pill the morning of surgery with no more than a sip of Water. I would call your doctor and find out!

DonnaGC,

Have you had you final preop with your doc? When I had mine I was given a sheet stating when to stop taking my medications. Also, when the office called with the surgery day instructions she clarified when to take certain medications, when to stop eating solids and drinking Water.

If you're still unsure call the office, it's important. :)

Best of luck to you!

Hi there,

Just a quick update. I'm on the other side! My surgical team was simply awesome. My nurse that went over my history and got me ready to go the the OR was simply wonderful. She was great to joke around with with putting in my IV and getting changed into my gown and pretty hospital socks. :) Met the OR nurse, anesthesiologist and my surgeon before going in. They were super accommodating for me, I have an aversion to being strapped down to the OR table (less than pleasant experience with a c-section). I asked if I could be asleep first and they were totally understanding. In fact I think from the time I walked into the ER to the point of unconsciousness was maybe 45 seconds. Literally, I laid down, saw a bright light and... that was it. Next thing I know, I'm back in my room, husband waiting. The first few hours are a complete blur. Vaguely recall my surgeon checking in and telling me I had a really small liver. I don't know what drugs they gave me but man, I didn't feel anything in the stomach area, just unbelievable chest pain from the co2.

I hope this helps some of you guys that haven't gone in yet. If you have any question let me know.

Tasha

I also had my surgery on the 23rd. The night and early morning were rough. In and out of sleeping, back pain from bed. Being poked with needles for tests, being made to walk and drink. I wish I had a bigger heads up. I'm going better now, pain is under control. But not my hunger! I'm so hungry! Walking good. But not cleared to go home yet sadly. One more night here.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
