Anxious to get started on a new me!

Recommended Posts

Hello to everyone! I am so anxious to get started with the Lap-Band! I am a 43 year old male weighing in at 300 lbs. I have diabetes and just recently had to go on insulin. I have a beatiful 9 year old daughter and I want to be around for her! I lost my wife, her Mother, in 2003 to a terrible accident. So, I guess I am not only doing this surgury for me, but also for my little princess. I have been gathering all of the information for the insurance company. I would like to have my surgury before the new year. This forum has been a great inspiration to me. Thank You all for the help and info.

Bubba, Congrats on making the decision!! I am still working on it. I am 24 have diabetes and have been on insulin for about 6 months. I would love to be banded and get rid of all of the injections!!! I think you have a lot of courage, and strength to come through what you have. Your daughter is lucky to have a Dad like you, fighting to stay with her!!! Your story is very humbling, you and your family will be in my prayers. Congrats again!

hi Bubba

I'm sorry for yours and your daughters loss of your wife and her mother. I wish you all the best with your daughter and also your lapband journey.

I have Type II diabetes and have not yet been banded but the nutritionist has me on Optifast. As you can see from my Ticker below, I have lost some weight. I was on Metformin and Actos. I am now off all medication for diabetes and am hoping to come off BP meds eventually.

Regards,

Alfie

I have gathered all of the information the insurance needs except for the 6 month supurvised diet. I was on one, just over 2 years ago. I wish they would go with it but I doubt if they accept it. Insurance companys are really silly. I wouldn't want a Lap-Band if I could diet. Whoever writes these rules must be skinny!

Hi Bubba, I am in the same boat. I am trying to get together my 6 month journal. The gal in the office told me to just put something together but I want it to be true so I've gotten all the notes from my doctors office for the last 8 months. You're right they must not have a clue..if we are overweight, how do they think we got that way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
