Will I feel normal eating ever?

Recommended Posts

I am two months post op and eat very slow. Will I ever eat like a normal person at a normal rate? Will I be able to take bigger bites. Sometimes I am hungry and I eat to quickly and then I feel it stuck. I miss eating normal to eat normal bites and swallow.

Most likely yes. But depends on what you consider "normal" and your individual case.

Most of us eat without pain and average sized bites.

I dont know what issue your having but I am 3 months out and was going to restaurants from when I was cleared to eat normal food at 5 weeks lol. Would you be able to eat like a normal person what normal? i have only been obese then had wls so what is normal. Dont eat to quickly lol so it doesn't get stuck, I get your hungry but what is the rush? The food will not disapear if you are bit more mindfull that will come with time! , I eat normal bites and swollow ( not so much now as i am unwell) but i mean before i was not doing anything special to chew and swollow neither was I instucted to, but if you eat your weighed amount if you do weigh and slow down your fine, when at a restaurant I seperate the food on my plate, and make sure I am watching, as i actually stop before I am full as I do not like that feeling.

I mean take normal bites instead of baby bites and chew till you can’t chew anymore. Does it get better as we get further out in the process. I eat at restaurants too that doesn’t mean anything food is food. I am saying will I always feel like that is my food is stuck or will that feeling go away. I am trying to eat slow since I have always been a fast eater.

It will go away.

It will go away to the extent that you can get into trouble and eat too much because you eat to fast and don't chew enough. It will be so normal you can regain.

So these are new habits to develop that will become YOUR New normal... if you want to keep off the weight you've lost.

I feel normal at five months. I can’t eat much still but I can eat anything (blessing and a curse). Besides the amount of food I can eat I wouldn’t even know I had surgery. Very pleased and down 47 lbs

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
