Doc wants me to lose 26 lbs in 2 weeks?

Recommended Posts

My weight is currently 346lbs and my doc says if I don't lose 26lbs in 2 weeks that he wont do surgery. Is that even possible? He gave me no directions but to eat 1200 cal diet low carb/ low fat. I had Water fasted for 28 days and didn't loose 26 lbs. Is he setting me up for failure?

It's quite possible your doctor doesn't actually want you to lose 26lbs in two weeks. That's beyond difficult even for the best of us after surgery. Your doctor's threat is more likely to motivate you to show serious progress in the next two weeks. Do the best you can & show your doctor you're motivated. Good luck!

Likewise, I suspect that he is giving you a (ultra) stretch goal to see how well you can do when motivated. If he seriously expects you to lose that much that quickly, he is clueless about the obesity problem and I would say goodbye and find another surgeon - there are plenty of them who don't play such games and their patients can be just as successful, if not more so.

This seems crazy, try incorporating some dieters tea also that has helped me in past. Good luck

Thank you for the replies. I have been fasting and lost 8lbs so far in 4 days. I just didn't know what else to do but his words were very discouraging. I really hope he wasn't serious.

I don't know what dieter's tea is. I will have to look that up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
