Water, Water Everywhere...

Recommended Posts

I have a plastic cup that I have marked with 16 oz. I fill it up with my beverage (most likely crystal light, but Water on occasion) and I carry that cup around in hand with me everywhere I go, until I get it all down. I can get one down in about 20 minutes, repeat at not eating times 4x a day. If it’s not scheduled, I’ll never get it in! Good luck!

Just thought I'd update everyone. Now that I'm less than two weeks post op I am getting down to business and preparing for thingsthat need to be regimented with post-op. That means I took a page from @njgal's book and have put so many alarms on my phone I may as well be an advanced security system. I'm currently drinking 54-60 oz of Water a day, pushing to get in the full 64 oz. I take 2oz sips every 15 minutes. I also use sugar free popsicles (thanks @Nancy MBGC) as my evening snack to get in some of that liquid count.

minute maid 15 calorie passionfruit, fruit punch, or lemonade are easy for me to drink, and not too cloyingly sweet.

Love it!! Hope you’re doing Ok. You’ll know your intake pretty soon and will be able to let go of your alarms but until then rock it!

I was very glad to know that other liquids count as Water. There was NO way on earth I could drink that much water PLUS the other stuff. I've been eating a lot of ice. I bought a few big bags of pellet ice from Sonic. It doesn't hurt your teeth and it counts as water!

I drank copious amounts of Water and ice tea before surgery but am now forcing myself to drink. Logically I need to but have no desire to constantly sip, no pain swallowing just easy to forget I need to do it....very weird. And my NUT says it's in addition to the Protein Shakes - so there is that...

Ok. So this is gonna sound bad but I hardly drink. No Water no nothing. This was a concern for me before surgery and scared me. But I tried popsicles and managed to not get sick or hospitalized. I'm now about to hit month 11, Vitamins everyday, met goal weight few weeks ago. Still trying to get my liquids in. Today I think I had 20oz. I'm going for a doc appointment next week so will see what they say. I need help.

It has become very clear, between the reading materials my surgeon has given and the advice from everyone on this forum, that Water is one of the most essential pieces of success post-op. My concern is that I have never been one to hydrate regularly. I roll my eyes whenever "stay hydrated" is toted as a cure alll... headaches, feeling fuller, Constipation, nausea, depression, clear skin...you name it Water always seems to be the answer. But I hate drinking. I know I am in for a rude awakening for the pre and post op liquid diet, and I am committed to being a good patient. I want to meet my water levels. Can I have some ideas to make sure I am constantly sipping and getting my water on track? I need it to be easy or else I won't stick to it.

I know the feeling. I have a hard time tolerating water unless it's cooled at the right temperature, based on the flavour. I'm thinking about getting some water delivered to my house, as using a Brita filter just isn't cutting it and I know I'm not getting my numbers in.

I'm craving salt too, and I think it's dehydration. We have to do better! Ugh

I can't even imagine what I'll be like after my surgery. Hoping I can maintain as regimented a routine as I started now. Sounds like it's going to be tougher than I thought!

In addition? That’s a tall order my friend. Mine OK Protein shakes as part of the liquid intake requirement. Your surgeon’s office agrees or is your NUT part of that office anyway?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
