MJP820 33 Posted October 19, 2017 I have some fear about my plane ride home after surgery. I will be traveling from Mexico to Connecticut and an extra 2 hour car ride home, @3 days Post-Op. Anyone out there traveled far? How did you come with any pain, oozing, walking to prevent clots, keeping hydrated? Thank you for your feedback.
Paul Bahr 73 Posted October 20, 2017 Both my wife and I flew from San Diego (had our surgery in TJ) to Chicago (4 hour flight), and then drove home to Madison, WI (2+ hours). We did quite a bit of walking between surgery and flying so most of the gas was worked out. Buy some Water after the security gates and drink while you're in the air. Buy an apple juice on board if you need more. I know it's another couple of hours from Chicago to Connecticut; you might want to get up and hit the lavatory a couple of times to move around a bit. You should be fine. 1 MJP820 reacted to this
Supernovae 34 Posted October 20, 2017 The first day after surgery is pretty terrible, but from then on its not too bad. I only had a two hour ride, but that was totally fine. Just remember what you do BEFORE travelling is what's important. If you get on the plane well hydrated then you won't have any problems! Only thing I could suggest is maybe bring a small pillow and a scarf. The scarf might be good in case you want to create a soft barrier between any incisoions and the seatbelts. Pillow just so you can rest as you may be tired still. Plus, sleeping makes the trip go fast! You shouldn't really have much pain by day 3. I met a lot of people in hospital who were all fine (I know everyone is different but let's be positive!) The oozing I'm unsure of? Why do you think there would be oozing? If you mean the incisions opening then it's unlikely if you just be careful. Support your body weight on something as you lower yourself into seats so that your torso isn't forced to stretch. I made my bf switch to a higher car because the low one wasnt fun [emoji14] When you're in hospital they will give you the blood clot stockings. You should wear them on the plane! If they don't give you any just ask for some. Anyways, good luck! (: Sorry if this isn't much help!
