CO2 tension...owie.

Recommended Posts

Got banded 4 days ago and though I have zero regrets, the post-op stuff I was made aware of is starting to get to me. Laying down, I'm gravy...I just extremely tired of being in bed all the time. I stand up...pain in the chest. Once it subsides, my heart starts to beat a little faster. Then it all goes away until I start the cycle all over again. I was told this is from the residual CO2 in the abdominal cavity and that it would go away. But it feels like it's my heart that's the problem. Spoke to my nurse and he says that that is, in fact, the gas - in time it'll go away. I haven't had a painless burp, well...I can't even call it that, since the procedure. I canNOT stand lying down all day, but I dread standing or sitting up because of this pain.

Anyone go through this? Any advice? Gas-X hasn't worked at all for me...

Help! :cry

I was given suppositories in the hospital(dulcolax) to help with the gas. You can try it if its ok with your doctor. Also, I was sick of hearing you have to move more but guess what, it really does help. I take 2 gas x's at a time, one won't cut it. Good Luck Vanessa

When I was in the throes of post-op gas pains, my heart would pound so hard that my eyeballs would jump in their sockets. It really is normal, and it really is scary.

Hang in there, things will improve in a few days as you become more active.

Thank you all soooo much. I will do exactly what you've told me to do...as hard as it's been. But if it works for you, it'll work for me!

Can I just say that this forum is great? I didn't expect to even receive one reply this soon. This'll definitely help me on my road to success!!

This is great to hear...well, I mean, it's unfortunate, but I was to the point of doubting what my doc's been saying. Knowing that there are others with the same probs is quite reassuring.

Thanks!

:)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
