Mine was when my local doctors wouldn’t operate on me to clean sepsis out of my abdomen because our hospital isn’t equipped for someone my weight. (385). I was shipped to another hospital almost 4 hours away. Made it hard for my mom and my teenager to get there to see me, while I was almost dead from sepsis.

I had a family reunion coming up and couldn't stand the idea of skinny aunts silently tsk-tsking at my weight.

I saw pictures of myself that my sister-in-law took while we were on vacation and literally couldn't believe how fat I was. I realized then and there that this isn't who I want to be any longer and decided it was time for a change once and for all.

My wake up call moment was when we went to Disney World and I almost wasn’t able to participate in something due to my weight. I was 25 pounds short of having to sit it out. It took another year before my best friend had WLS and I realized I may be able to take that route, too.

My wake up call was last year they said i was pre-diabetic. It scared me to death. I joined a gym and worked out 5 days a week changed my diet and only 30lbs down just couldn't mob scale weight started trickling back the exercising was exhausting more and more to lose the weight. Then, i went to family event and heard my cousins say she has a pretty face if she would just lose the weight she would be so much prettier. All the work of 6 months, these statement destroyed my resolve. Tired of being the heavy cousin.

I was twisting my body up in weird ways just to get up and down the stairs in our house. When I had to approach stairs, I'd have to psyche myself up to use them. Getting into and out of chairs was becoming hard. I have bad knees, and the extra hundred pounds was making them fail even faster. One day I realized I was heavy enough and met the co-morbidity requirement for weight loss surgery and that was the day I made up my mind. I had a good run, eating whatever and as much as I felt like for 46 years; it was time to get it under control and give myself the best chance of being alive to see my son to adulthood.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
