Hit soft foods, week 3 question

Recommended Posts

My surgeon gave me the okay to start "Soft-Mushy food" during week 3-5. It says eat "3 meals a day, each should have 1 oz meat, 1 TBSP fruit 1 TBSP veggies.

"When eating animal Protein, start with ground meat consistency, Beef, pork, chicken, turkey etc. then gradually increase to pulled or shredded."

So here I have some bbq pulled pork, frozen, had it before, it's really mushy. I get it from Sams Club. The family is having it, but I don't know if I can have an ounce of it or not. What are your thoughts? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/calories/byrons-fully-cooked-pork-bbq-sams-club-342569292

It meets the single digit sugar/fat requirements laid out by my nutritionist, it's not ground, but it's much mushier than traditional pulled pork COLL+Byrons2.jpg

I used to blend mine. Sounds awful but it was fine. If it has loads of sauce on it then it blends well and it doesn't hurt your stomach. 1 minute with the stick blender was all I needed lol. Be careful of stringy meat as it can cause you pain when you are first out of surgery.

Hi Kathy what stick blender are you using? I can't seem to blend any of my meat so I'm sticking to ricotta and cottage cheese. tuna and canned chicken are too dry to get down. I too am in the puree stage week 3

Hi I found that white fish poached with a little white sauce pureed just with a fork. For other things I used a food processor. Tuna and tinned Salmon were ok again with a small amount of sauce like a mornay. I bought a bag of sliced chicken and it was really soft. My dietitian said a little bit of sauce gravy or stock works wonders. I would try BBQ Sauce products in small amounts due to sugar content in the sauce make sure it agrees with you first. Stringy meats like pulled pork can also be chopped up into tiny pieces. All trial and error

Thanks for the advice. I had some last night, was really careful about chewing thoroughly. Felt fine after... could have had more, left some on my plate, didn't want to overdo it my first time eating.

I love my stick blender! Makes creamed soups/sauces so smooth.
