Recommended Posts

I'm 47 days post up and I've been on a stall for about 2 weeks my nutritionist told me that I needed to have between 900 and 1000 calories a day and I haven't been able to get that much food in , I was able to one day 2 days ago I felt really full and really sick I was miserable all night I'm not eating anything that I shouldn't be eating but I get on the scale today and it says I gained 2 pounds I don't know why I gained weight and feeling really defeated I just don't know if this is working for me, i think im failing and i dont know how or what im doing wrong

Thats quite a bit of calories. My surgeon recommends to not exceed 600 cals a day. Honestly there are so many differing instructions all of these surgeons give. The bottom line I've found is to just listen to ur own body. Even if your plan/surgeon says to go up to 1000 cals, if that hurts u right now, then only ingest what's comfortable to u. If ur plan says its ok to eat chicken but everytime u do, it hurts and gets stuck, don't eat chicken. YOU decide what u can do based on what ur body tells u. Listen to ur body!! Sounds like 900-1000 cals, for u, is too much. Maybe cut back a couple hundred cals. See how that feels. U know what i mean? Good luck hun.

Think more of the long game rather than focusing on the stall since it hasnt been that long. At 47 days i was still only able to eat a small amount, and nowhere near that many calories. I felt weak and dizzy sometimes and was lucky to get 600 calories in. Once your more healed and eating is easier the weight will come off. I wold focus on the healing and dont worry so much if you dont see pounds falling off right now, your body is probably in shock still.

once i was able to get a lot of Water and liquid in my weight started dropping. I think it helped me to get comfortable with having Protein in my stomach too. The first couple months any time i ate dense protein i felt like i would burst.

Im five months out and during the week i will see fluctuations of 2-3 pounds either direction during a given week, but its still trending downward month to month. Right now i am dropping about 1 pound every 2 - 3 weeks, so its slow but still progress. And of course now that i am recovered I am eating just about whatever i want, just not a lot of it.

It was hard for me to believe that not getting enough calories could cause me to stop losing weight, but now that i am accustomed to how this sleeve works, i eat something small every 3 or 4 hours and that allows me to get the calories in that work for me.

Are you weighing yourself everyday? If so, stop, at least for now because you will make yourself crazy. I weigh myself once a week so I don't see as much fluctuation day to day.

Also I found that eating several small meals per day helped me meet my goals much better nutrition wise. Honestly, I did not start losing weight well until I upped my calories and Protein intake personally. I still can't eat very large meals but I can eat several small meals to help me meet my goals.

I was driving myself crazy on the scale so I understand wanting to weigh everyday but it really is a better view to do so once a week or even once a month if you have the strength to do so. For example my weight day is Monday and yesterday I was 185, I just stepped on the scale and I'm 189. My doc said you can fluctuate up and down as much as 5 pounds day to day

I totally agree. Do not weigh every day. Once a week, at the least.

Sullie - quick wuestion. What types of small meals do u eat? Can u give a few examples? Im a month post op and cant really find things to eat. I only have things like cottage cheese, string cheese, yogurt, eggs, Beans, apples and peant butter in my list. I dont know what else to eat.
Thanks!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
