Pre op diet- getting dizzy

Recommended Posts

My surgery is at 7:30 am on Tuesday, October 17th. I have been on a liquid diet since Friday and have been miserable since. I can have sf Jello, sf popsicles, sf Powerade, broth and water- I drink approximately 80+ oz/day. I have been getting dizzy throughout the day and it makes work almost unbearable. Should I get a low fat greek yogurt or something of substance?? I feel like I'm going to pass out at times.

I'm on a 2 week one of just sugar free jelly and 3 pints of skimmed milk and sugar free drinks like tea and coffee. I'm on day 7 and I realised if I had for got to take my Vitamins I felt it more too. I would try and stick to it as much as you can I know it's hard and it feels like your body is craving and needing these things but I keep telling my self there is a reason they have asked me to do this so I need to stick to it. I thought I was going to pass out just going to the bathroom from my bedroom. Can you have more vegetable content in your broth maybe give you a bit of a kick. Low fat most of the time means they have to fill it with something else as they have taken the fat so stick more sugar in it so wont help you shrink your liver. If you do have somthing try to make sure it has naturaly accuring sugars than refined so fruit and such. Or you could try moving and getting up slower that might help to let your body a just.

Good luck on Tuesday. I heard a salt broth might help with dizziness or your dehydrated and need H2O.

You a coffee/caffeine drinker ? Caffeine withdrawl could cause that. Or it could be from a sudden/drastic change in the amount of carbs youre eating daily as well

You are still in withdrawal from sugar/caffeine. By Tuesday you will feel much better :) which isn't much help now! We all go through it and unfortunately there is no real solution. Chromium can help if you want to try something.

Good luck to you. My surgery is at the same time. I have to be there at 5:15 am to be prepped. And 7:30 my life will change for the better ...I hope and [emoji120]

Just got my surgery date yesterday of 10/24. They only have me on a pre op diet for the day before surgery and I can have any liquid like slim fast or Protein Shakes or Jamba juice and then midnight before surgery Clear Liquids. I asked why did I find that many people were doing a two week preop clear liquid diet and they said they just never made that a practice at my facility.... I’m shocked. I was mentally preparing myself too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
