55 pounds down! Feeling snacky

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm 55 pounds down since my surgery on July 4th. I'm stupid happy with the progress but have been feel exceptionally hungry for the past week and find myself snacking throughout the day. And because of that there's a stall in my weightloss. Any tips are much appreciated!

I like to snack as well, but my go to snack is sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello. When I have that hungry feeling and liquids just don't do it, I love beef Jerky. I also like the Atkins caramel nut roll bars, so delicious with great Protein and low carbs! Oh yeah, I love Yoplait yogurt low fat, so very yummy.

Congrats on your loss!! I'm a week later than you, and I too have been wanting to snack. I find myself grazing at night. Usually I keep it low cal, but I know this is a big trigger for me.

I was sleeved July 10th. I have found that my level of hunger has fluctuated. During the times when I feel more hungry I allow myself to eat Snacks, as long as they are low carb and low sugar. That has worked for me so far. Congrats on your amazing success and keep up the hard work!

I would recommend you intervene with the Snacks. The best part of this beginning honeymoon phase is using the sleeve to retrain your brain.

It will take some trial and error and you can use the good weeks and bad weeks to learn what works best for you in managing your diet.

As my pouch healed I have found that what works best for me is 5 small meals, 3 of which are Protein and 2 are veg/fruit/carb.

I typically experience mild hunger about 3 hours after eating in the 2nd part of the day so I eat. But it is planned and managed which keeps me on track.

As other will say, the denser Proteins provide the most satiety in terms of hunger and the longer lasting satiety. However (at least for me) the quantities are much smaller. I cannot eat more than 2-3 ounces at a time of protein. So I just eat the next 2-3 ounces 2-3 hours later.

Thank you all for the advice and suggestions. I have read a lot about the honeymoon phase and want to make the most of it to train my brain and not regret it later. I went out and bought the premium Protein Shake this weekend from costco. I'm hoping that will be something I can introduce into my diet. And also going to keep some low calorie Snacks handy. And time my meals instead of just eating when I feel like it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
