Trouble with Eggs

Recommended Posts

Hi There!

Anybody else have trouble with eggs? I have tried them twice, both times left me hanging over the throne. I'm wondering if it will always be this way...

I have had eggs a few times. Scrambled with salsa for added moisture. No problem. Maybe add something for more moisture?

Our nurse suggested we not even try eggs till 5 weeks. She said it's not uncommon to not tolerate them at first.

eggs use to be a key staple of mine pre-surgery, but I'm two years post and simply can't tolerate them or have much of a taste for them any longer.

Oh man, I love eggs, hope I don't develop an aversion for them!

Me too!

I read somewhere that scrambled might be more difficult than other forms so keep in mind boiled, poached etc

I defintly can't do eggs. I have had a boiled egg in my salad and did ok there. I can eat a deviled eggs like maybe 1/2. But it all depends on my "PRISSY POUCH". If I can keep them done or not. In fact my hubby made deviled eggs yesterday and I just could not bring myself to try them. :( :(

I am over 4 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery and I eat one scrambled egg for Breakfast each morning. My surgeon's office did not recommend eggs until week 5 post-op. So after week 5, I tried to eat eggs, but it didn't go so well at first. But a few weeks later, they became good.

I love eggs: have had them scrambled, fried, and poached. No issues other than that I can only eat one at a meal, not two as I formerly did.

I buy fresh chilled egg whites ... about the same price for 500g (500mL) as for 500g-600g of eggs.

They are high Protein, low fat and they mix well into smoothies or Protein Shakes.

Just curious, has anyone tried eating a 6 minute soft boiled egg with about 1/2 tsp of butter melted into it?

Thank you for all your input. I think I will put off trying them for a while longer, and when I do, add some moisture (salsa, sauce, etc.)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
