I dont have that piercing but absolutely no jewelry in surgery per my surgeon, also no nail polish, lotion, makeup, etc and no shaving 3 days prior to surgery.

I can't take my Tragus out because it's too tight. The nurse told me to let them know when I go in and they will put tape over it.

What about acrylics or gel tips on your nails! I have my daughter's wedding one week before surgery and she wanted us to get our nails and toes done together. If I can't keep my nails, I'll just get a Mani with clear coat. Thanks in advance if anyone has first-hand experience and knows the answer.

@TheNewMrsR None. I had gel and had to take it off - they need to see your nail beds while you are knocked out, also the pulse-ox on your index finger won't read your oxygen level correctly with polish on.

I don't want to get there and have them delay surgery to get it off.

Thanks! I'll just get a clear coat and remove it before surgery then. Glad I asked before spending a lot of money on it!

I was told by the OR nurse that acrylics and light polish is okay. This was when I went in for my endoscopy. She said the reason for no dark polish is because the pulse thingy can't read through the polish, but light-colored polish is okay. I guess every OR is different.

Congrats on the wedding and best wishes on your surgery.

Google is your friend.

It's the center part of your ear. The little triangle piece that pokes out opposite the C the ear forms

I believe the diath is lower and Tragus is upper but might have it mixed up

Ask your surgeon. I did and mine said it was fine they didn't need to see the nail bed and the pulse ox worked fine with polish.

But ask YOUR surgeon (to the poster who asked!)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
