My revision is approved!!

Recommended Posts

Just received notification my insurance has approved my revision from band to RNY! I'm so excited and nervous! I called my mother to tell her I was approved and she says to me, who do you want to take care of the kids if you die? That sure made me depressed! But I'm going to stay positive that I will be fine[emoji4] not long now till November 6th!!

Wow, sorry you had to have that reaction from your mom. But CONGRATS on staying positive and getting your revision approval! Do you have friends and family who are supportive?

Thank you! Yeah as my Mother says she has no filter... But my husband , Dad and other family is supportive so that's good. I'm very anxious about the recovery because I have small kids a 1 year old and 3 year old home all day . So hoping It all goes smoothly lol

Glad to hear it! And good luck on the smooth recovery with the kids. I guess I have a blessing in disguise in that I don't have kids yet (one reason why I'm doing the bypass - I have PCOS so this should help things work better). Keep us posted! My surgery is next Friday :51_scream: crazy how quickly it snuck up on me!

No filter whatsoever -- that is quite the reaction for you to deal with. And the question about the kids -- LOLOL, is she also denying your husband parental rights??

Ack, best wishes to you, you will be fine, and your life expectancy and quality will be better when you lose EBW.

I had trouble conceiving my first two pregnancies and lost weight to become pregnant actually with my first baby I had the lap band placed 12/26/06 and became pregnant 6/2007 So be prepared you can become very fertile after weight loss surgery. I then lost 60 lbs for my second but it took us a year to conceive her. My last and final baby was a surprise and I was at my highest weight. Now that I'm done having babies I'm going to finally focus on getting healthy for good. Good luck on your surgery!!! I know you will do great!!

I think she thinks I should of said she can take care of the kids lol but I told her if anything happens to me and my husband we have talked it over and want my older step daughter to raise them. Boom to her lol

Indeed! I have to add, losing the "filter" happens with dementia. You should raise THAT with her, lol.

She's definitely showing signs of Alzheimer's [emoji22] my grandpa had it as did everyone on his side of the family. She's only 62 so it's scary. I try not to take what she says personal but some things she says is very hurtful. She also has very bad diabetes and I think that's done something to her brain as well. All the more reason for myself to get healthy now so I don't have diabetes later.

That's one of the reasons I'm doing it - get healthy now before more problems surface. My surgeon said he wished he had more patients that would come to him BEFORE they collected the weight-related health issues. Easier recovery for the patient, and just better odds of success overall. I don't want high blood pressure or diabetes, and that's what I'd be trending towards if I didn't do surgery to help get this weight off.

I was 23 when I had my lap band done and was a lot healthier then. Now my A1C1 is a little high and I just feel crappy physically. I'm so ready to have energy and be able to get on the floor to play. I had originally tried for the RNY back then but my insurance would only approve the band, I've never felt successful with it. But this time theirs no other choice. How have you been on your pre op diet ?

Very good advice -- I am a good example of someone who waited too long and is dealing with complications.

Pre-op diet has been not as bad as I was fearing lol luckily I've drank many Protein Shakes in the past, so I like them just fine. I've been doing different smoothie/shake recipes to keep some variety going. Did a pina colada one the other day (pinapple chunks and coconut extract for the flavoring), and a pumpkin pie one last night (pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon for flavoring). Don't get me wrong, plain chocolate and vanilla are fine, but since I'm able to blend some stuff into them for pre-op, I'm doing it haha Tried having just chicken broth for lunch one day to get something more savory, but I was NOT a fan. Just tasted bland and unappealing at the same time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
