Previously had gall bladder removed

Recommended Posts

I had my gall bladder removed and the surgery didnt go as simply as it should have. The surgeon accidentally cut my bile duct and i ended up having to be cut open to repair it, and had to have drains for 6weeks after the surgery. It was quite awful.. But moving on, and now I have my appointments booked for as soon as my health cover kicks in, to see the dietician and a new surgeon for sleeve surgery. But im hoping my previous surgery wont affect having this done. Has anyone else been through this?

I’ve been cut open vertically twice, once for c section and once for emergency surgery to clean sepsis out from a perforated bowel. My bariatric surgeon is really picky and says that I shouldn’t have any problems even though we know I have a huge amount of adhesions in there.

I've seen lots of patients who had open surgery. A gallbladder open is less worse than some other stuff. For a sleeve it probably won't make much of a difference for a competent surgeon, but I sure wouldn't want to go to a surgeon who isn't very experienced. I'd say it's very rare for them to not be able to do a sleeve laparscopic though, so wouldn't be worried. It'll probably take extra long but that's all

I just hope that you're not having the same surgeon do your sleeve who did the gallbladder though

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
