How big is our stomach after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I got bypass surgery 5/1/17 and I lost 118 pounds, I was 433 day of surgery. I wanted to know on average how big are our stomachs now? I wanted to know because I can eat some stuff but Its only a few bites and I'm scared of stretching my stomach :(

4oz should be the size of your new stomache, about the size of an egg...

They describe it as the size of an egg, but it should be able to hold 3-4 ounces of soft meat by now. (Like a whole can of tuna if you don't add a bunch of stuff to it).

Eat until you are satisfied, but not stuffed, and you don't have to worry about stretching your pouch. Your stomach will naturally hold more over time, so that's why you have to pay attention to what you are eating, not just how much.

Aren’t you supposed to eat your Protein first? And even so 12 oz seems like an awful lot to me just now. Maybe not do that again?

I wont, I bought veggies and fruits, all small, I'm starting my plant based diet starting tomorrow. I`ll be juicing dark green nutrient veggies and drinking small amounts.

Again, Protein first... and rather than juicing eat the fruit itself I’m told.

If the noodles were covered in sauce, they probably just slid right through your anamosis (especially since you waited 15 minutes)... and then the meatballs went into a (probably) empty pouch.

This is why I eat for no more than 10 minutes, then stop. The stomach can empty oh so fast with some foods.

Since you are going plant-based, let me recommend bean noodles for Pasta. They are basically all Protein and Fiber. Shoot, even meat-based Keto dieters can probably eat them!

Be prepared to get full on a much smaller portion. Here is one for sale (I get mine at my grocery store). There is the nut. info on down the page.

I didn't know that the stomach can empty so fast. I thought food sat there for alittle bit. I mostly wait 2hrs between a small meal and a small drink. Is that appropriate?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
