I was just wondering if any of you ladies find you need more calories during your cycle. My cycles are really heavy and a week long. By the middle of my cycle I feel weak and tired if I don't increase my consumption and my NUT said that I might need more nutrition due to the increased blood loss during my cycle. It's insane though, I average about 1100-1300 calories a day normally but this week I've been averaging 1500-1600:o. I've been adding Iron rich foods at the insistence of my NUT. I just didn't know if this was normal?

Not sure if I need more calories, but I certainly feel voracious hunger and cravings the day before and through the first day. Usually by day 2 I'm back to normal. I've only noticed it because the other ~26 days of the month aren't this way at all. It can sometimes make me feel "weak-willed," but I realize it is hormones, then choose to eat something filling and nutritious. Then I choose to eat a single serving of very good dark chocolate :D

Thank for responding! While I have the normal cravings and such, which I avoid and chose healthy food, during the middle of my period which is usually the heaviest, I actually feel crappy if I don't up my calories (headache, tired, weak feeling) but this doesn't happen the rest of the month. My periods are really heavy though so I wonder if it's different than someone who has a normal or shorter cycle.

I don't bleed much (thanks ablation! ) but I suffer the same voracious appetite as white sail. I don't think I need the extra calories, but I try to make OK choices so I don't go overboard.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
