Traveling after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery on 11/7 and my job has scheduled a work trip for 12/6-12/8.

Was wondering if anyone who has had the surgery could tell me if its crazy to plan travel a month after surgery? Or will I still be feeling pretty wonky?

I went on vacation at 6 weeks out. I felt great. You should be good by 4 wks just plan for your food according to what you can tolerate at that time. If you can go shipping instead of eating out that would be easier for you. But at 4 wks I had energy and felt well enough to travel.

Thank you so much! Im glad to hear it. I haven't told anyone in the office. I'll make sure to pre-plan my meals!!!

I was away for almost a week about five weeks after surgery when we had to do my mother's big Italian funeral near NYC - just planned my meals and got a hotel room with a fridge so I could stock yogurt, Protein Shakes and other high Protein stuff - I pushed food around on my plate alot when I was with the family and no one noticed. Good luck. (No one in my family other than my husband and two daughters knew about the surgery. They still don't 105 pounds later.)

But no lifting! I was told nothing more than a gallon of milk weight for 6 weeks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
