When I was in the hospital every time I dozed off I would have a bad dream, and since I've gotten home (surgery was 9/11/17) I've had 2 horrible very real like dreams. I'm not one to hardly ever dream at all, so this is really weird for me! I thought maybe when I was in the hospital that maybe it was a side effect to the pain medicine, but I haven't been taking any pain meds since I've been home. The only medicine I take is the antacid they prescribed, and my Vitamins. This is so weird! Has anyone else had this issue??

I had horrible vivid dreams but it was definitely the pain meds. I can't handle any kind of opiod medication. The dreams feel like hallucinations. From what I've read, a small percent of the population has that reaction. As soon as I stopped taking medication then things were better. Since then though, I don't sleep well and wake up a lot at night. I seem to have a lot of jittery energy.

Two left field ideas for you... supposedly drugs stored in body fat can be released during weight loss - so maybe you have taken something recently before you lost weight and stored it, and now it gets released.

Also, poor sleep can take its toll.... and in the first month or two, we are essentially in starvation mode because we eat so little. So its no wonder the brain acts up!

Thank you so much for your comment!! The only thing I had taken prior to surgery was ibuprofen, which except for like 2 weeks prior to surgery I was taking it almost every day due to severe knee pain. So maybe it is still trying to get out of my system. Who knows?? I've never slept very well at all. Although I am sleeping some better since surgery. I just hope the bad dreams stop soon! Thanks again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
