So I'm one week post op and I'm trying to think of all of the food that would be good to eat after I'm completely healed. I like eating refried Beans with shredded cheese on top I know that sounds weird. But I felt like there is high Protein with that and maybe that's a good thing to eat once I'm healed. To the people that are already healed up and eating normally, what does your eating look like now?

I did it a few times. Refried Beans sat really heavy in my stomach.

There isn't as much Protein in Beans and cheese as you'd think (well compared to animal proteins). I am a vegetarian so I eat it pretty regularly. You also might want to watch the carbs as beans can be high in carbs (if your doctor has a carb limit). I use vegetarian, fat free beans with low fat cheese. I also add a Tbsp of salsa and a 100 calorie guac pack now that I am several months out. It makes a very filling lunch.

I was dreaming of refried beans after my surgery. I couldn't wait and wanted it to be my first real food. I was all set and ready but then I had an apt with my doctor and it turns out that I had read my paperwork wrong and I wasnt going to be able to have beans for 3-4 more weeks (my doctor had pretty strict post op diet rules). I waited and was in heaven when I was finally able to eat them. I also do sides of refried beans and guac when we go out to dinner.

I will tell you that refried Beans were a meal that I was COMPLETELY looking forward to, I put some cheese and a little bit of taco sauce on them and was one happy man! After being able to do nothing but drink those shakes for two weeks it almost brought tears to my eyes the first spoonful of "real" food that hit my tastebuds! Its allowed so enjoy it, no apology needed!

Refried Beans with a little cheese and salsa were one of my go to meals during my pureed stage along with egg salad (pureed with a little mayo and dill relish) and the famous Ricotta Bake.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
