Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new on here and my sleeve surgery was done September 14th 2017 this coming Saturday I'll be 1 month post opt....I still face a lot of gas pain, acid reflux pain and some Constipation ...to top it off I'm just getti g back some energy that I lacked this whole time due to the anesthesia given....My o my .....How do I deal with the pain that keeps me up when I already try everything....taken all fluids in along with the recommended diet. I walk eating and sipping slow taking reflux meds. and gas x warm heating pad over stomach ginger tea pain medicine and nothing is working......Is it a healing process of the stomache or just trap gas still and what advice do you have to overcome the pain......my surgen told me about a week and half back that some experience this early on and I'm still at the early stage to hold on it gets better but it's so uncomfortable and how much longer do I have to wait for relief???

Sorry. I used the gas x strips, but if its trapped gas from surgery that won't effect it, but that should've resolved by now. For Constipation, I started off with generic colace 3 a day and kept an enema in the cupboard for when it would get really bad. And I would occasionally take my pain meds if I was feeling crappy but they can be constipating as well so be careful. Be sure you take all Vitamins. Don't eat or drink too soon before lying down. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi and thank you hmills653 Aspiring Evangelist !!!! Doctor had previously prescribed me some fleet suppositories I still go once a week. Maybe I need the enema! The pain medicine taken is liquid Tylenol which supposed to suppress pain for 8 hours it don't maybe 1 hour. I wait about two hours after intake of food before lying down but I didn't know it was for drinking also so need to try that as well......I.Called my surgeon office this morning because I cried about it for the first time last night so just to see if there maybe more relief for this but your response brings a light of hope thank you

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
