I told my mom, my boyfriend and my best friend. My mom says for me to get it and supports it. My boyfriend says im perfect the way i am he loves me for me and he is scared because it is a operation and i do have a blood clot disorder and he is afraid something will happen. My best friend feels the same. She told me to drink nothing but smoothies. I told her thats unhealthy and does not work lol. My boyfriend supports me on it and said he will be there for me every step of the way. As far as work im not saying a thing till i have surgery scheduled and i have to tell my boss and fill fmla paperwork out.

I really am proud of myself! However, i lost over 100lbs before and sadly put it back on; which was my reason for having surgery. This time is going to be different ...there’s no going back!!!

You should be very proud of yourself. Also, do what I’ve promised to do which is continue to post here. It will keep us accountable. I haven’t had my procedure done yet but it will likely be late January or early February. I have made a promise to myself that I don’t want the weight to come back once I lose it hopefully 🤞🏻🤞🏻I think if we post on this forum we can support each other and help each other get through the difficult times. I’ll be happy to annoy you nonstop 🤣🤣to make sure I hear from you at least once a week. Can you promise to do the same for me please?🙏

I found unbelievable support when I started telling family and friends. Initially I didn’t want anyone to know but, it really turned out to be a huge help psychologically and emotionally. It also helped me follow the rules.

I have developed a technique for dealing with people I don't want to tell about bariatric surgery and it works so well.

Here's how it goes... There is a particular pattern to most conversations about weight loss that goes like this.

Observer: Wow! You've really lost a ton of weight.
Person who lost weight: THANKS! [explains how they lost weight, how much they lost]

All I do is when people I don't know/like enough ask me about my weight loss, I just politely say "Thanks." That's it. I don't give details on how much I lost, how I lost it... nothing. I then either smile and move on to something/someone else or I flat out change the subject.

You would be amazed how well this works. People don't know what to do when you won't play the game. When they give you the opening to tell them about your weight loss and you don't take it, they just freeze.

It works like a charm.

That is great to hear. You are obviously surrounded by very caring and supportive people. I, however, know for sure that this will not be the case with me. Too many of my family members have made derogatory comments about anyone we know who’s had WLS. I could be wrong and their concern and love for me may allow them to become more open minded about this but I’m afraid to take that chance. Regardless of whether or not I want to admit it, their opinion of me matters so I can’t risk them thinking I took the easy way out or “cheated”. Of course this isn’t the easy way at all. But I believe I’ll have enough to worry about after my procedure. I don’t need their criticism on top of my struggle. I’m happy that your family and friends are supportive. You are a lucky person and must truly be loved.

Love this response!! I think I’ll try it myself. I absolutely agree!!

My sister and many others I know paved the path for me. However, I was very vocal with everyone about having the surgery. I would do it all over again. It's dramatically improved my health and wellbeing and I have my confidence back!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
