Surgery didn’t work?

Recommended Posts

With all due respect, I don’t understand how “it didn’t work”. I am pre op but I do understand calories in vs calories out. If your only ingesting ie 800 calories a day, how can you not lose weight? I can’t keep weight off but when I cut calories I will lose. How can this be that it didn’t work?

Lacecute, stalls happen, and it sucks big time. I will say, though that you aren't eating nearly enough to jumpstart your weightloss. Your body is probably holding on to each morsel you eat, because you are in starvation mode. I had my surgery a week before you, and I eat a lot more than that. You should be eating 800 calories per day at the very least. What you listed totals about 400 calories.
Start following your program. Everything is ok with the exception of the chips of course. Eat something every 2-3 hours. Focus on Protein (more), healthy fats (you've got them), and get some Fiber in. You are going to be malnourished and constipated like crazy if you keep eating like that. You need to actually eat something at this point. Some lean protein and vegetables for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. A Premier Protein shake for 1 of your Snacks if you are still lacking in protein. Have the cashews or some fruit (berries) for another snack. If you are still under, add a small salad to finish off your day.
This is what I ate yesterday.....
Breakfast: 2 egg whites, 1/4 cup of spinach, 1veggie sausage (116 cals, 3g fat, 2g Net Carbs, 16g Protein)
AM Snack: 1 Premier Protein Shake (160 cals, 3g fat, 3g Net Carbs, 30g Protein)
Lunch: kale salad with cubed turkey (195 cals, 15g fat, 1g Net Carbs, 12g Protein)
Early PM Snack: 1 oz. raw almonds (160 cals, 14g fat, 3g Net Carbs, 6g Protein)
Dinner: 3 oz. grilled salmon with 1/4 cup chopped broccoli (185 cals, 11g fat, 1g Net Carbs, 19g Protein)
PM Snack: 2 celery sticks with 2 triangles of laughing cow cheese (85 cals, 3g fat, 1g Net Carbs, 4g Protein)
Macros: 901 calories, 49g fat, 11g Net Carbs, 87g Protein
Oh, and stop stressing also. That causes your body to hold on to fat. Cortisol is increased with stress.

I’m literally screen shooting what you ate in a day. This is so helpful!

You've lost 30 lbs in two months? How is that not a lot? You also didn't start out with that high of a starting weight...I'm a slow loser too. I haven't lost in like a week or two and I've just learned not too stress about it too much. I had my surgery three and a half months ago and have lost 41lbs in total but only 34 since surgery. But that's about an average of 11 and a half pounds a month...which is great. I would be a little easier on yourself.

Thank you for banning this person. I’m a new post op patient as well as a nurse myself of 21 years, and I’ve never ever heard such awful, degrading and patronizing speech from someone esp professing to be a professional in healthcare (albeit she refused to give up her state of practice 😂) on a forum such as from Abeille. Thank you for banning this so called professional. Thank goodness God sees all, and this self proclaimed “egotistical” mental woman will be judged in her own due time for her unkindness toward people, esp those of us vulnerable at this delicate time.

25l lbs lost and I'm just happy !!
I too thought at first I'm not losing enough, but what everyone says repeatedly on these forums is true!!
Everyone isn't the same, I'm happy just losing! I don't care how slow, I'm losing!! That's all that matters to me, so just be happy, that's why it's called a journey. Not complaining anymore untill I gain lbs, then we have a problem.

Great job and really great attitude. 👌🏼 So fresh to hear thankfulness about weight loss (esp after some really awful things have been said lately on this thread but happily that person is banned now).

Don't worry. It worked. We all have different expectations. If you expect this to be a tool not a miracle you will be fine :) I love my sleeve 4 months post. You make it work for you ;) Good luck.

Unfortunately, its not as simple as CICO (cals in, cals out). Without going into my complaints, for some, it's become A LOT more complicated than just cutting calories, trust me when I say that. For some, the weight just pours off and it DOES seem like it's as simple as CICO. But for others, many others (me included), just cutting calories isn't doing jack. Constant 'stalls', as some call it, or just no movement on the scale no matter how closely one sticks to the diet plan and exercise regimen given to them by their team. So, just be careful with judgement. WLS doesn't work the same for everyone and every body doesn't take to WLS like one thinks it should.

There is no judgement here. I realize the process is much more complex than CICO. However, for the majority, if you burn more than you take in you will lose. I, of all people, know it won’t necessarily stay off. Or it may take a while if you don’t take in enough cals and your body goes into starvation mode. But typically, you will lose.

The latest thinking is that this whole "starvation mode" may not be accurate thinking. I wish I could remember the article but it was a good one.

Well, there is a starvation mode but it's usually not what people think. The hormonal changes like e. g. impaired thyroid function or changes in cortisol levels seem to be very real and not a myth.

"Starve mode" is worth a read IMO.

No judgment. Stalls are very normal even on plan we all experiance them. My response was more for the "it's not working" when some people are not eating the right things etc.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
