Let’s talk protein

Recommended Posts

I had my pre-op class today and we talked a lot about Protein. Problem is, they push whey protein because it absorbs better, but I’m prone to kidney stones and a vegetarian so whey isn’t an option for me. The dietician is going to do some research for me, but does anyone know of a good vegan protein that actually tastes good?

Your best bet is soy, and other types of Beans. Milk and cheese also have quite a bit of Protein.

There are lots of vegan Protein powders. I used Orgain but then switched to a whey powder and am getting better weight loss results since doing so.

I’ve been a vegetarian for 20+ years and have started the pre-op diet. Getting my Protein in has been very hard. I’m drinking shakeology which I know Is vegan. I will eat eggs/seafood too. Do you have suggestions for protein options?

Aren't you the same person who use to look down on people who got surgery and took the easy way out?

I've never tried it but I've heard that PB2 Peanut Butter powder isn't bad and can be used to add some Protein to shakes, etc.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
