Soft/Pureed phase

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I started soft foods last week and I'm worried I've screwed it up! I haven't been necessarily pureeing all my food, rather I've been chewing it (turkey meatballs, deli meat, cheese, eggs) until it's a really soft consistency. I haven't thrown up but two days ago I did have horrible stomach pains. I have my follow up tomorrow with my surgeon but won't see my dietician for a few more days. Anyway, I'm wondering if everything really does have to be pureed to a silky consistency? I can't imagine pureeing meat, I guess it was so weird for me I thought chewing a lot would be enough. What are you guys doing?

Pureeing cooked meat in a good blender with the right amount of liquid 'media' is pretty easy.

Do you have a good high-torque blender?

I can say from my experience that YES I would make sure to blend things totally. I was on my puree diet after my RNY, my PA told me that basically anything that can be pureed I could have!! Not good!! I was craving watermelon and after he told me that I really thought to myself how bad can a little watermelon hurt. Let me tell you I have NOT had it since!! (I am 4 years out from July 2013) Just those little bites gave me acid "Backdoor trots!!!! My bottom was on fire!! So please puree your food. Just follow everything your Dr tells you to do and you will be great!! Good Luck

I was allowed pureed tuna in the pureed stage (week 3). I loved it with pureed peas and some lemon pepper. I didn't really have anything else until I reached the soft food stage. Like you, pureed meat grossed me out. Slushy chicken just didn't sound good to me. Good thing I had tons of other things to eat.

The pureed stage doesn't last that long anyway. Before you know it, you will be chewing on much denser Protein.

I just finished my liquid phase and moved onto purees this week. I puree everything and I often have to add a bit of broth, to get it thin enough...otherwise it does not sit very well. I haven't thrown up, but a couple of things just feel like they sit in my stomach like a lead weight...pureed homemade beef stew looks utterly disgusting, to be honest, but actually tasted pretty good...I just try not to look at it while I eat it...

I just moved on to the pureed stage today. I actually did the same thing... I had about 3 ounces of shredded chicken that I chewed and chewed till it got soft but now I’m worried And I probably shouldn’t have done that. I agree that blending meat doesn’t sound good at all. I didn’t feel sick or anything after but I guess I’ll just stick with oatmeal instead from here on out. How are you feeling now? What did your doctor say?

Thanks for this post

I’m with you girl. The sound of puréed meat grossed me out. I’m probably going to stay away from meat until I get past the puréed stage. I think very soft cooked eggs are going to be the closest I get to meat until later

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
