Tips for Disneyland & California Adventure Eating?

Recommended Posts

Headed to Disney in Anaheim! There is hardly anything on the web about the best places to find Bariatric friendly menu items in the parks, district and hotels. Any tips are appreciated! TIA!

It's been a long time since I've been there, but no matter where I go, I look for a meal that I can get my Protein from, and leave off the carbs. Things like steamed shrimp, or steak, or chicken with vegetables instead of rice or potatoes.

The food in the park is so expensive, I would bring a cooler of food to leave in the car and go tailgate for lunch.

Bring in Protein Powder you can even mix with Water. Bring packets of high Protein Peanut Butter, easy quick protein fix. Then when people stop to eat, eat a plain burger patty or Beans and cheese (Mexican). That is what I would do. And if I wanted to eat something "treat" while my kids ate a dessert or sweet, I'd bring some 85% dark chocolate and have a square or two.

Across from the Indiana Jones ride is a BBQ skewer place. You can order by the individual skewer for $3-4 each. It’s about 2.5-3oz of meat, so perfect portions for bariatric people. You can also request it cooked without sauce if you are Keto. In Disneyland, just past Splash Mountain there is a food place up the big wooden ramp that has grilled chicken burgers. You can have it without the bun. I think they will let you substitute baby carrots for the fries.

There isn’t really a good equivalent in DCA. There I think you are limited to turkey legs or hot dogs or hamburgers without the bun.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
