I feel like I can eat too much

Recommended Posts

My experience has been I still feel hunger. I am hungry roughly every two hours. I can eat about 4 to 6 ounces of lean Protein and I am satisfied. Then two hours later hungry again.

My Dr says the more protein you take in the less hungry you will feel.

Consider adding a PPI if you are not taking one already. Excess stomach acid can feel just like hunger.

I am not buying into that I asked my doctor and he said there is scientific data to support.

I am not buying into that I asked my doctor and he said there is scientific data to support.

I felt a gnawing feeling in my stomach that went away with food. That feeling went away with an acid reducer. Happened when I was pregnant too.

Many others report the same. Is that scientific proof? Nope. Anecdotal evidence at best. But how do you provide scientific data about someone's perception of something? That's tricky at best and I have a minor in statistics and a bachelors of science from a research university.

You don't have to buy it. But I suggest anyone who feels hunger every two hours post op, be your own study sample size of one. Try some over the counter omeprazole. See if it helps. Can't hurt, right? All you have to buy is some omeprazole.

I hope you are right! I just got alarmed when so many people could barely finish their Water or Protein intake and I was totally fine with it! I graduate to puréed on Monday so hopefully a half a cup of egg salad does the job!

Hey just wonderingnsince going to puree do you feel fuller?

I was hungry at that stage too but 2-3 oz did fill me somewhat. When I was starving and already ate an hour or so earlier I would have two sugar free popsicles and almost every day I had a heaping tbsp of smooth Peanut Butter which really hit the spot. PB WAS THE only thing that cut my hunger. Now I can eat everything but (pasta and rice per dr. Orders )in small portions. I eat 6x a day mini meals and stay at about 600-850 cal a day. I keep carbs below 50 and Protein at 50-70. But on heavy workout days I need carbs. I crave them. So I could eat a huge granola bar those days. Sometime I eat too fast because I'm starving and then I realize I ate too much and feel sick, burp, hiccup, or throw up a little. So working on eating slower so I can feel my stomach getting full.

It was okay on my plan but every surgeon has a different plan. My week one diet was Full liquids, I was only on clears in the hospital.

I was the same way post surgery, I NEVER had a problem keeping any food down, what is being said is the absolute truth. The liquids slide through even if it is a Protein Shake. The yogurt may stay with you for awhile but not long as it will slide right through as well. I had the same problem and thought that my sleeve was too large until I started doing some research and discovered what many here have told you. Once you start eating solid food you will QUICKLY discover how small your stomach is. Once you eat some real food you will see! I can only eat about 4oz over 30 minutes.

I was the same way, full liquids went right thru no problem. I started to wonder if my sleeve was too big and this was all for nothing. Then I ate some pureed chicken! The sleeve is real! 2 oz and I'm full for 4 hours. No hunger

I just posted a similar question about liquids. I just joined so I hadn't explored all of the threads.

I was starting to get alarmed about how much I could drink. But the explanations here and in my thread make total sense.

Also, I could still eat a small bowl of cream of wheat, which is thicker than Soup. That's not exactly liquid and seemed to go through without any discomfort.

I guess the real test will be soon when I go to pureed and soft foods.

ABSOLUTELY!!! Cream of wheat is still soft, just wait until you eat something that has some density to it, just do yourself a favor and do like the NUT or Dr tells you and take small bites and take your time eating. You will be amazed at how little you are able to eat. I am almost two months out and I still can not believe how little fills me up. Eating to fast hurts WAY too much and one "normal" forkful can mean the difference between being full and being absolutely miserable. Yes I have made that mistake as well! Small bites and take your time eating, it will save you a lot of pain.

Cream of Wheat is considered a pudding-thick consistency liquid, and since one bowl of it only has 2 grams of Protein, you won't feel full after eating it.

Only dense protein causes that feeling of fullness and satiety for most sleevers. Cream of Wheat lacks the consistency and protein to cause satiety.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
